2010 National Jamboree

Information updated February 3, 2010

The Greater St. Louis Area Council will take six troops of 36 Scouts and four Scouters each to this event July 26-Aug. 4, 2010.

Fewer than 10 spaces remain for Scouts to attend!

2010 National Jamboree Registration Instructions

Our contingent will depart July 22 and return Aug. 5.  We are planning a tour of  Washington, D.C., and other sights prior to the jamboree.  The 2005 contingent went to the Smithonian, White House, National Mall, Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Monticello and Arlington National Cemetery among other places.

Veteran Scouter Roger Engelbart, who has served as an adult leader for past national and world jamboree contingents from our council, will lead our six troops on a memorable experience for all who attend.

Contact Roger with questions, engelbart301@sbcglobal.net.

Roger is happy to announce the following Scouters have been selected to attend with our contingent.  Each of them have applied and been interviewed to assure that our Scouts will have the best experience:

MEDICAL FORMS
Troop members should have received a medical form personalized with a bar code from the National Council.  This form is the only acceptable medical form for the jamboree.  Completed medical forms (with a doctor's signature) should have been returned the Greater St. Louis Area Council by Feb. 1, 2010 -- do not mail to your jamboree Scoutmaster as directed on the medical form.  Didn't receive your form or have questions?  E-mail jamboree.medical@scouting.org.  The Greater St. Louis Council does not control the medical process.

Recent applicants for the jamboree should submit their medical form as soon as reasonably possible.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE FOR YOUTH PARTICIPANTS

By Nov. 2, 2009 $400
By Jan. 4, 2010 $400
By March 1, 2010 $400
By May 3, 2010 $400
By June 1, 2010

$285

Note: The $100 deposit and the $10 application processing fee is not included in the payment schedule, but is included in the total budget.

The total jamboree fee is expected to be $1,995, which includes the jamboree fee, travel, lodging and side tour activities.  However, it appears that the travel costs will be less than budgeted, so it is reasonable to expect the total price to be less than $1,995.

Individual jamboree troops may elect to purchase T-shirts, neckerchiefs or other personalized items that are not covered in these costs.  In 2005, some troops raised these funds or parents chose to simply pay for these optional items.

The council will not send invoices to participants.  Each participant is responsible for keeping payments up to date or face dismissal from the contingent.

Payments can be made at any service center or mailed to National Jamboree, 4568 West Pine Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.  Credit card payments can be made in person or  via telephone by calling the Program Department, 314-361-0600.

CAMPERSHIPS
A campership fund exists to support Scouts wishing to attend the jamboree.  The fund was created by a generous donation and emblem sales from the 2001 and 2005 National Jamborees and 2007 World Jamboree.

Scouts seeking campership funds must demonstrate financial need, complete a detailed application and be interviewed to determine need.  The maximum amount of any campership is 50 percent of the jamboree fee.  Even with a campership, Scouts will be expected to pay at least $1,000, and likely more, to attend the jamboree.  Most Scouts will not receive a 50 percent campership.

Campership applications were due February 15.  Families selected to receive a campership will be notified in March.

UNIFORMING
Scouts are not required to have the new Centennial uniform, but they can use an older-style uniform or mix-and-match pieces.  No red insignia -- shoulder, loops, numbers, or socks, however.

Jamboree troops are encouraged to order troop numerals in a single order.  The one-piece, four-digit numeral emblem will be ordered by each troop.  Scouts have already received one National Jamboree emblem to be sewn above the right pocket.  Ordering information about additional emblems will come from the National Council.  These emblems cannot be purchased in a local Scout Shop.

Unfortunately, uniform pieces are not discounted in the Scout Shops for contingent members.

Contact your Jamboree Scoutmaster if you have additional uniforming questions.

TRADING POST PRE-SALE AND NATIONAL UNIFORM EMBLEMS
The National Council will send each family in mid-February a pre-sale catalog exclusively for souveniers and momentos from the jamboree.  Families are encouraged to take advantage of this sale to reduce the amount of spending money required and to guarantee item availability.  Non-Greater St. Louis Area Council jamboree uniform emblems are only available through the catalog.  They will not be available in any of the St. Louis Scout Shops.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY APPLICATION?
Contact Mike Zolezzi at the MacArthur Service Center in writing either by U.S. Postal Service or e-mail.  Money paid to date will be refunded and the National Council will be notified of the cancellation.  Please inform Mike ASAP of your cancellation so that another Scout can apply.
